2024 Bold Woman

I was incredibly proud to see Rachael C. Capua honored as a 2024 Bold Woman by Girls Inc. of Tarrant County.

The occasion came with an enjoyable reversal. Rachael had previously served as the emcee for the Bold Woman breakfast, which meant she was accustomed to guiding the program and working from a script. This time, she could attend as an honoree and allow someone else to manage the microphone.

Friends and colleagues from Tarleton State University joined us to celebrate her leadership and commitment to education.

Recognition is meaningful because it makes visible work that is often performed quietly over many years. Rachael has devoted herself to creating pathways for students, especially those navigating higher education without the advantages or familiarity others may take for granted. Her work helps students see that they belong and that their goals are attainable.

The word “bold” can suggest a dramatic public act. In education, boldness also appears through consistency: advocating for a student, improving a system, creating access, or continuing to believe in someone when the outcome is uncertain.

Those actions can become turning points. A single conversation with an educator can change how a young person sees the future. A scholarship, transfer pathway, or encouraging voice can alter the direction of an entire family.

Thank you to Girls Inc. of Tarrant County for recognizing women whose examples expand what the next generation believes is possible.

Dr. Cap, we remain immensely proud of you. Your leadership demonstrates that creating opportunities for others is not only meaningful work. It is one of the most lasting ways to shape a community.
