Building the First U.S. Sister City Partnerships with Papua New Guinea

It was a historic week in the Pacific Islands - the U.S. now has its first two Sister City partnerships with Papua New Guinea. The City of Long Beach, CA and Village of Poplar, WI have signed with Port Moresby and Madang, respectively, and are working on exchanges focused on students, culture, and WWII history.

If you’ve never been to “PNG”, put it on your bucket list. It has more languages than any other country (860) the best scuba diving and birdwatching in the world, and is one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. It always lives up to its motto of “expect the unexpected.”

These Sister Cities International people-to-people connections by regular “citizen diplomats” enhance the great work being done by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy Port Moresby.
